There are a few places we have been to in the world where the moment we arrived we knew it was something special. Sayulita in Mexico, Berlin, Angkor Wat, Trancoso, the Monferrato region of Italy and The Wynn Las Vegas. Or WynnWorld as we like to call it.
When you first walk through the Wynn resort and casino, you’ll notice that something is different. Is the air fresher, are the slot machines quieter, is the music more chill? The answers are yes, yes, and yes. WynnWorld is highly designed and meticulously maintained. Nothing is frayed, no lights are unflattering, no employee is tired. And the crowd is so upscale that your scale rises with it.
No slouching here, please! Take your nicest clothes and wear them in public at all times. This may sound showy but it is actually one of our favorite aspects of staying at WynnWorld. You can wear a different fabulous outfit every time you leave your hotel room. Everybody is dressed up, morning, noon and night. It’s like having your own television variety show. When else do you get to do that?
That is why we like to drive when we can, so we are free to take as much luggage and as many pairs of shoes as our hearts desire. If we go for four days, we park the car (for free!) on day one and don’t get back in it until day four. We love going in the middle of the summer when the heat renders life slow and lazy and undemanding. We spend our days by the pool, our late afternoons in the spa and our evenings in the restaurants and cocktail lounges.
Here is a list of our favorite activities, watering holes and dining options that we suggest for a typical WynnWorld day.
In The Morning at The Wynn
Wake up in your firm, comfy bed, lift your head from your plush down pillow, reach over to the phone and press the “curtain” button once to open the black-out drapes. Press it again to open the sheers. Look out your 20-foot by 12-foot windows and enjoy the scenery. We prefer the back of the hotel view, which overlooks the tree-lined golf course.
Don your day-at-the-polo-club attire and meander down to Jardin restaurant for breakfast. Stop at Urth Caffe for a super smooth, full-bodied, steamy and frothy, morning-revving cup of coffee.
Put on your biggest, boldest sunglasses and sashay up to the hostess stand at Jardin. A table for two, in the center, please. The restaurant looks like an enormous orangerie in a French chateau and the open and airy room is great for people watching. As in all of the WynnWorld restaurants, the food is super fresh and delicious. The interesting menu choices range from healthy smoothies to indulgent lobster benedict. You are in the bonus if the duck confit omelet is on the menu.
After breakfast take a spin around the casino floor of the adjoining Encore Hotel. Window shop the haute couture houses of the Encore Esplanade – Hermes, Chanel, Loro Piana. Perhaps a fur bikini or chain mail speedo is in order for the upcoming day’s activities.
In The Afternoon at The Wynn
Dress for the pool in your sheer cover-up, insanely large-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and strappy sandals. Pack your chic but semi-casual tote with your phone, tablet and/or other reading material, headphones, room key, and stainless steel water bottle. Don’t worry too much about sunburn because WynnWorld pools (unlike many other hotels on the strip) have shaded areas.
Head down the elevator to the P level and flash your room key and a smile at the pool attendant. Keep along the right side of the pool and stop at the towel booth, grab one yellow towel and one striped towel and fill your water bottle at the filling station. Stroll knowingly past the front pool bathers to the European pool behind the outdoor gambling area. Stake a lounger under the shade trees in the back and settle in!
For lunch, make the very tough choice of dining at one of the two poolside restaurants, La Cave or The Terrace Point Café. As tomorrow is another day, choose the Terrace Point Café, WynnWorld’s “coffee shop”. The salads are amazing, the burgers are amazing, the truffle fries are amazing and they have excellent vegan options.
After a bit more pool time, freshen up at the WynnWorld spa. WynnWorld guests receive a discounted day-use fee which covers the use of the whirlpools, steam rooms, saunas, relaxation rooms, and lockers.
In the Evening at The Wynn
Once you’ve exercised your pores and soothed your aura, gussie up for dinner in your finest cocktail wear. And we mean finest – go all out in whatever style best suits your mood and enhances those cheeks aglow from the sun and the spa. It’s your night damn it!
Head back down to the casino floor for a pre-cocktail cocktail at the Tower Suite Bar. The Tower Suites are kind of a hotel within the hotel with a separate entrance and (less crowded) taxi stand. The rates are higher and the bathroom toiletries a bit nicer. The entrance to this bar is right off the regular casino floor and they have great munchies that pair well with the WynnWorld signature cocktail, the Sinatra Smash.
Everyone is out for a pre-dinner stroll so now is the time for some prime people watching. This is best achieved at the Parasol Up cocktail lounge. It is a big, round, elevated, open lounge between the casino and registration. If there is a host, ask for a table along the outside railing, enjoy some more excellent munchies, and watch the world go by.
With you looking so fine, your first dinner has to be at the Country Club restaurant. It has a bit of an intimate, old school feel with leather chairs and polished wood furniture. The martinis have that oh-so-sought-after film of ice crystals on top. The beef carpaccio is a melt-in-your-mouth perfect mix of rare beef, shaved parmesan and micro-greens fluffed with balsamic. When there are just two of us, we always prefer eating at the bar and find the best dining bars at WynnWorld to be at Country Club, SW Steakhouse and Allegro.
But don’t eat too much because you may have to fit back into your swimsuit for a wild midnight pool party at the Encore Beach Club. Ask your bartender or at reception for comp tickets that they give to WynnWorld guests. This activity is a bit outside of our normal stylish adventurer box. The crowd is young, the music is throbbing, and the booze is spilling. If you are young in years or young at heart, it will be thrilling. Grab a floatie, down a gummy, sit back and take it all in.
Luxury hotels, even five-star resorts, are relatively inexpensive in Las Vegas compared to other cities. We have booked nights at WynnWorld for under $200.00. Sign up for a Red Card account at wynnlasvegas.com for room discounts.
